This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
In Fukushima, it is often referred to as the 2011 triple-disaster because of the additional crisis
of the accident at the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant. It has been a long and challenging
10 years since those initial difficult days of despair and uncertainty, but the people of Fukushima
persevered. To see the coastline today, it is difficult to imagine how much tireless effort has
gone into clearing away the prior devastation. Where before there was destruction, now there is
beauty once again. Restoring the land has been difficult, as has been the effort to restore
Fukushima's reputation. There are still more challenges to face, both in the present with the
Coronavirus pandemic and whatever else may come in the future, but the people of Fukushima will
overcome them. This is what we do. This is who we are. This is Fukushima.
